Sally L. Covert

Sally went to be with her loving Lord on July 24, 2010. Sally is survived by her husband of seventeen years, Stanley B. Covert, M.D. of Elk, WA; daughter, Lauren McKenna of Spokane, WA; granddaughter, Courtney L. McKenna of Colonial Heights, VA; great granddaughter, Sydney-Grace LeAnn “Gracie” Upton of Colonial Heights, VA; brother, Rodney (Pat) Christian of Spokane Valley, WA; nephews, Mark and Steve Christian of WA and numerous cousins and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, LeAnn. Sally was born on May 2, 1936 to Jesse Ray and Helen Grace (Haas) Christian. Sally grew up in Spokane, graduating from West Valley High School in 1954. In 1955, she married Robert P. McKenna and together they moved to Alaska. She was employed for the Geophysical Institute in Fairbanks and the Attorney General’s Office in Anchorage. In 1972, she moved back to Spokane with her two daughters, LeAnn and Lauren. She was employed as a legal secretary for the senior partner of Lukins and Annis Law Firm from 1972 until her retirement in 1994. Sally was the most loving, caring and devoted mother to LeAnn and Lauren and friend to everyone who knew her. She had the kindest of hearts. Sally’s hobbies included crafts, sewing, cooking, church activities and most of all gardening. She really loved her garden in Elk on Eloika Lake. She was meticulous in the home and had a knack for arrangement. Sally enjoyed sitting at the dining table watching all the birds that would come in on the deck and feed. Her one biggest love of her life was her cocker spaniel, Maya, who has given her ten years of loving companionship. The family wishes to thank Dr. Steven Nisco, surgical staff and nurses at Sacred Heart Medical Center’s Cardiac ICU for the tremendous care they provided for mom. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 30, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. at the Country Church of The Open Bible, 40015 N. Collins Rd., Elk, WA 99009. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at Pines Cemetery, 1402 S. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA.
