Russell was born April 22, 1928 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin to Selma (Fett) and Everett LeRoy Dotson. He joined the US Air Force at Scott AFB, Illinois in 1947, and proudly served his country for 24 years. Russell served in Japan, in the Korean Conflict, in the Philippines during the occupation, as well as in Thailand and Vietnam. Stateside he was stationed in San Antonio, Texas where his son Everett was born, at Englin AFB, Florida and Fairchild AFB in Spokane, Washington. While stationed in Japan Russell met his bride of 59 years, Kikue Date, a registered nurse. Following his honorable discharge from the US Air Force in 1971, he took a Civil Service job at the Fairchild AFB Commissary, retiring in 1994. Russell and Kikue have been active members of Trinity Baptist Church in Spokane where he has served faithfully as an usher for many years.
Russell is survived by his wife, Kikue; sister, Nita Price of Kenosha, Wisconsin; step-brother, Wally; step-sister, Marcia and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Illinois. He was preceded in death by his son, Everett Dotson (2001); his parents; his step-father, Stan Bittenbender; and step-brother, Kenny.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 1 pm to 5 pm at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe St. in Spokane. Please join the family for a memorial service to celebrate his life at 1 PM on Monday, September 20, 2010 at Trinity Baptist Church, 6528 N. Monroe St.
