Passed away peacefully March 8, 2010. Ron was born May 10, 1939 to Joyce M. and Selmer “Sam” Bakken in Colville, WA. Ron joined the Air Force at the age of 18, travelling many places around the hemisphere and retiring from the Air Force. He then went to work for the City of Spokane, retiring from there also. Ron was a man who deeply loved his family, Labrador Retrievers, motorcycles and R/C model airplanes. He was also an avid woodcrafter. He passed away after a 6-plus year battle with cancer – he fought it to a standstill twice, but it kept coming back. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Eileen Bakken; mother, Joyce Bakken; son, Lance Bakken (Bonnie) of Mukilteo, WA; daughter, Shannon Davis of Everett, WA; grandchildren: Neta Green, Emily Bakken, Shon Switzer, Kaeli Switzer, Sophia Griego, Elenor Griego; great-grandson, Joseph Green; sisters, Carol Campbell (John) and Cheryl Holmes (Bert); brother, Dan Bakken (Elsie); and numerous nieces and nephews. Heartfelt thanks go to Dr. Chaudhry and his nursing staff (known to us as “angels in waiting”). Their care and compassion cannot be surpassed. No services will be held, at the request of his family. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to Hospice of Spokane or the Humane Society of Spokane.
