Raymond Leigh Larson, 81, of Boone, North Carolina, passed away on March 11, 2017. Ray was born March 20, 1935 in Spokane, Washington. He was raised in Rockford, Washington and was the youngest son of Ward and Gerda Larson. He was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army before receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree at Washington State College, an MBA from Washington State University and a Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Oregon. Ray taught accounting courses at Washington State University, California State University at Chico, University of Oregon, University of Colorado Boulder,
Duke University, University of Tennessee, and Appalachian State University, from which he retired in 2004.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Ray served in many capacities such as pastor, teacher, auditor, and clerk. He was an avid genealogist and taught genealogy classes in his church and in the community. Ray met Nancy Turner at Washington State University and they married in 1963. They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary last September. Ray will be remembered for his strong example of integrity, humility, teaching, service, and faith.
He is survived by his loving wife Nancy, his children Shana (Glenn), Jared (Angela), and Rachel (Timothy). His brother Ed (Pauline), and one nephew, Eric. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Greg. He has eight grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. The burial will be held on March 17, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Fairview Cemetery in Rockford, Washington.
