Pauline Theresa Owen was born September 9, 1937 in Spokane. The first born of John and Virginia Vanderlin spent her entire life in the Spokane area. “Polly” went to a one room school in the Windsor area, then graduating from Cheney High School. Polly worked at Woolworth’s in the stockroom.
In December of 1957, she met Glenn W. Owen Sr., an airman stationed at Fairchild. They dated and were married in November 1958 in Spokane. Glenn and Polly began their family with the birth of Theresa in December 1959. Then in 1962, Glenn Jr. arrived. Polly devoted all her time to raising their 2 children.
Once the kids were grown, Polly found that she loved cake decorating. She took classes from a local gal and quickly developed a talent for baking and decorating beautiful cakes for friends and family.
She became a demonstrator for Hoover vacuums at the local Costco and did that for many years.
Polly loved her children. Terri and Glenny were her life. She supported everything they did. She considered Terri her best friend and looked forward to weekly phone calls from Glenn.
She also loved being Grandma to Lance, her only grandson, and recently met her great-grandson, Chase.
Polly was also devoted to caring for her mother, Virginia, after her father died in 1985. She even moved her mother into a rental just across the street from their home, to better care for her.
Pauline suffered a massive heart attack on Sunday, November 21. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Terri, in 2008. She is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, Glenn Sr., Spokane; her son Glenn Jr. (Joey), Marysville, WA; her grandson, Lance Gerber (Samantha); and great-grandson, Chase Owen Gerber, Spokane. She is also survived by sister, Evelyn Patterson, Federal Way, WA; sister, Barbara Modden, Spokane; and many nieces and nephews.
