Lorraine Evelyn Wagner Barnes
12-15-1920 ~ 08-24-2013
Lovingly surrounded by many of her family members in Tacoma, WA, Lorraine moved on to be, once again, with her husband Bob of 38 years. Lorraine was born in Spokane, WA and resided in the family home for 70 years.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Albert O. Wagner and Edith M. Allen Wagner, step-mother Esther Campbell Wagner of Sequim, WA. and her husband Robert A. Barnes of Spokane, WA.
After her mother passed away when she was only nine, Lorraine was raised by her aunts and uncles, while her father was serving in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Lorraine attended North Central High School, where she was an accomplished violinist in the orchestra and Bel Canto Ensemble; she graduated in 1938.
Following her graduation from Kelsey-Baird Secretarial School, she was employed at Spokane Linen Supply until she met and married Robert A. “Bob” Barnes. They worked together as freight and mail contractors while Bob was employed with Northern Pacific Railroad.
They enjoyed travels to the Orient, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, The Caribbean, South and Central Americas, Mexico, Canada and throughout the United States.
Lorraine’s appreciation of nature was through gardening, birding, wildlife and preservation of produce. She was a loving wife and mother. A homemaker with a strong work ethic, living through the war years taught her how to live a conservative lifestyle. The Seattle Mariners have lost a devoted fan!
She will be missed by her daughters, Roberta “Bobbee” Barnes Carr of Spokane and Linda Barnes (Jack) Butcher of Tacoma. She was proudly called Grandma by Dave L. Carr, Michelle (David) St. John, Denise (Karl) Aukerman, Derek (Mary Murray) Butcher, and Bonnie Mcgregor.
She was lovingly called "G.G.' or Great-Grandma by David M. Carr, Lisa (McKay) Price, Jacob Carr, Magan Carr, Madeleine St. John, Holli Carr, Fletcher Aukerman, Meredith St. John, Ian McGregor, Kristen McGregor, and Nathan Butcher. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Lorraine will be remembered with great love by the many whose lives she touched.
A service to honor Lorraine’s life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013, 12:00 noon, at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe, Spokane, Wa 99201. The family invites all who attend to bring stories and memories of Lorraine to share at the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lorraine’s name may be made to The Spokane Humane Society, 6607 N. Havana St. Spokane, WA 99217 or Ronald McDonald House, 1015 W.5th Ave. Spokane WA 99204.
