Loren Joel Anderson, (age 79) passed away August 20, 2010 in Spokane, WA. He was born in Alberta, Canada and moved to the U.S.A. in 1936. When the Anderson family reached the border his father had to return to Alberta to get more papers. The hardship from the trip caused him to become ill and he passed away at the border. The rest of the family settled in the California Bay area.
Loren, or Bud as his grandmother called him, worked at Stanford University as an Electron Microscopist where he spent 15 years with the center for materials research.
He moved to Spirit Lake, ID with his wife, Patricia, and son, Loren Keith. There he owned and managed Lake Haven Resort until 1989.
Bud was an active Rotarian at Rathdrum, ID for 20 years, serving two terms as president. He was awarded the Vernon Bannen Public Health Award in 1988 for his water quality work on the lakes of Northern Idaho.
Loren Anderson leaves behind his wife, Doris Anderson; three children, Douglas, Diane, Keith; four grandchildren, Katie, Lauren, Bryan and Sammy. He is also survived by four step-children, Christina Wood, Lisa Sonntag, Joel Vogrig, Molly Carlson; four step-grandchildren, Elaina, Tyler, Trenton and Jolene; nieces and nephews, Douglas and Krista Knight, Todd Ferguson, Laurie, Matt and Scott Hayward. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia, and his sisters, Betty Hite and Leora Hayward.
Bud was always loving to his family and friends. He had a quick wit and an admirable personality. He will be greatly missed by all.
There will be a gathering for family and friends to celebrate Bud’s life at 4 PM on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Bud and Doris’s home, 12720 N. Dakota St. in Spokane.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor’s choice of charity. Arrangements entrusted to Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe St. in Spokane.
