Lila Mae Eubanks (Schermerhorn), 81, took her leave from this earth on March 28th, 2022. Lila was born on March 23rd, 1941 to Stella and Lyle Schermerhorn in Eureka, MT. and attended Lincoln County High School.
In 1957, she met her husband, William “Mack” Eubanks, an acting deputy sheriff in East Glacier Park, MT., at the local diner where she worked as a waitress. So began the adventure that was her life. They traveled up and down the west coast of the United States camping, sightseeing, and riding motorcycles in the desert (and nearly avoiding snakes), until ultimately landing in Sherman Oaks, CA., where she became well-known for her painting. She graduated from art school and was frequently known for her art exhibits and instruction in downtown Los Angeles. She also served as a telephone operator in Los Angeles, often connecting the calls of the greatest actors and actresses of the time. After years of trying, finally in 1977 and 1980, she welcomed the two new joys of her life, her sons Brock and Sherod. She and her husband moved to Spokane, WA and peacefully raised their family.
In 2012, she sold her home and moved in with her eldest son in Yakima, WA, where she told outrageous stories, caused trouble, and enjoyed many years of laughter. In her final days, she spoke of the things she was most proud of, her boys and all they had accomplished, her love of painting, and her many adventures with Mack. She stated many times how she did not regret her life, as the stories are what she was able to keep with her.
Lila was predeceased by her mother and father, her husband, her sister Joyce, and her brother Ron. She is survived by her younger sister, Judy McAllister, her sons Amon “Brock” and Sherod Eubanks, her granddaughter Josephine Mei, and her great granddaughter Anastasia Mei.
She will be laid to rest in the Spokane-Cheney Memorial Gardens in Spokane, WA on April 19th, 2022.
