She was born January 2, 1927, in Kyoto-Fu Japan. Kikue was a registered nurse for many years. She tried to pursue her nursing career here in the United States, but they wouldn’t accept her credentials. She met and married her husband, Russell, a military man, on September 26, 1951, in Kobe Japan. They met while Russell was stationed in Japan.
During their military life, they lived in the Phillipines, San Antonio, Texas, where their son Everett was born, Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, and Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington.
Kikue became an American citizen in 1956 and embraced the American life, never forgetting her native language, culture, friends and family. She loved classical music, saying it helped her relax. In the past she was an excellent seamstress (making her own clothes and clothes for the family); she also loved to knit and crochet.
In the early 70’s while living in Spokane, she and Russell started attending Trinity Baptist Church. Bea and Al Lotz held an English teaching Bible class in their home with Marlene Olson and Ruth Ware helping with the class. Kikue and many Japanese women from Spokane attended. They especially enjoyed the Japanese tea cakes that were served. This class meant a lot to Kikue; she talked of it many times because through those dear ladies, she became a Christian. I believe that was a highlight of her life because she is now with Jesus that she loved so much. Her desire was to have her loved ones come to know Christ so she would see them again someday, in heaven.
Kikue found great joy in being a servant to her husband, son, and later on to her loving dog, Chibi. She especially enjoyed her son, Everett. Just about every morning he’d go to his parents home where Kikue would fix him a special breakfast. She loved his visits so she could spend time with him. She enjoyed traveling with Russell back to Japan and visiting Russell’s family in the States. She was a prayer warrior, a grateful, humble lady that seemed to never age. She and Russell were faithful members of Trinity Church for forty plus years.
Kikue is survived by a sister, brother, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, husband Russell and son Everett.
