Dear Koehn family,
We haven't seen you in so many years, being separated by relocations, but we certainly remember Ken as one of the "rocks" of our years as part of the Palo Alto Nazarene community.  We are sorry for your loss, but rejoice in the Lord as we know Ken is now in His presence and has his hope fulfilled to spend eternity with you and his dear Savior.

Ken led an awesome life with family and friends.  I know this world has lost a great person, but the Lord in Heaven has received him with open, loving arms.

Gentle, kind, honest, full of integrity.  An impeccable work ethic.  A great sense of humor.  Mr. Clean and Lawnmower man!  The gift of discernment , forgiveness and restoration were second nature to him.  Always present, always invested, always accountable.  A life devoted to my mother, his children, grandchildren and to the Lord.  That was my dad.  He provided a blueprint for the perfect husband and father.  In my mind, no one has ever been able to measure up to my daddy’s example.

Flowers, fruit trees, vegetables and a manicured lawn were extensions of his beautiful heart. Daddy was a simple, down-to-earth, no-nonsense kind of guy that led by example.  His creativity was endless, always looking for a way to fix things or rig them to work how he wanted.  He could usually make some kind of gadget  with a few rubber bands, pieces of 2x4, nails or glue!  If something needed done, daddy made it happen! 

Coffee, donuts and the funny papers ; watching Billy Graham; having long talks with the grandkids were just a few of his favorite past times.  

Daddy didn’t like kids riding their bicycles through his yard or other people’s dogs leaving presents on his lawn.  He hated Rock & Roll music - it was of the Devil!  He hated cleaning the Montessori preschool bathrooms at the Nazarene church, pruning oleander bushes and raking up olive tree leaves.  He did not like Jerry Springer!

Some of my fondest memories include:

Sitting on his lap in the kitchen, drinking watered-down coffee and milk from our baby bottles;
The homemade Barbie car;
Going to the dump ,duck pond and donut shop:
    Dad would always say “Here comes Dawn & Dale to feed the    “quackaroozers”;  Donuts are still my favorite comfort food!
My favorite teddy bear that dad sewed on new blue button eyes, red tongue with black thread and yellow patches at every joint to prolong his life;
Grieving with me over the loss of every parakeet, providing boxes, Kleenex and a grave to bury them in the garden;
Dusting thousands of church pews and cleaning toilets at the church to help him get home early;
Faithfully sitting on the end of the couch by the lamp every night reading his bible and having devotions;
Telling endless stupid jokes and pranking us every chance he got;
Lovingly supporting me at the loss of my first child…he didn’t have any answers, but told me he believed God had a plan for the rest of my life; 
I grew up with dad’s version of work ethic, he said “he could do more by accident than most people could do on purpose!”
Coming home late at night from work to a drenched cat that dad was stalking on his hands and knees with a spray bottle - he said he was “educating” the cat;
Loving and adoring my children - he was the best grandpa ever!  There wasn‘t anything he wouldn‘t do for them;

Daddy was my biggest fan - he loved me, supported me, and prayed for me - even when I couldn’t do it for myself;  

Daddy was the anchor of our family.  My father was an honest, decent man that always led by example and was willing to go the extra mile. He loved my mother unconditionally.  He was a light in the darkness. I respected no one more than him.  His passing has left our hearts broken but not lost.  We know we will see him again.  We knew without out a shadow of a doubt, he was ready to meet Jesus.

Today I feel so honored and fortunate to have called him my father. I am who I am today because he loved me.

Aunt Donna, Dawn, Dale and Family,

What a tremendous loss but how fortunate to have such a sweet and wonderful legacy!

I remember our visits and times together with great fondness.  His sense of humor, tireless work and servanthood, dedication and obvious love for his family are but a few of his virtues that generate treasured memories I will treasure.  Remember how he saved Jim and me from potential peril via his great sense of smell in detecting the gas leakage when I was but a young newlywed?  The fact that he (and you, Aunt Donna) chose to take time to visit your niece on your cross-country travels left such an impression of love and caring -one that lingers still.

Uncle Ken will be missed, certainly - but he is where he longed to be - in Heaven with His Savior.  And how marvelous the grace that will enable us to be with him there someday---forever!

Know, dear Aunt Donna and my cousins, that you are in my prayers and that my heart aches with yours at his passing.

We had few years together but the way you lived your life and what you tought me will never be forgotten. I truly believe that you are one of the people that changed me and made me a better person. So sorry to hear of this loss.  I always had a special place in my heart for great-uncle Ken.  I thought a lot of him.  He was a great man.  We will meet again!  Love you all!
