Judy passed away on July 10, 2021 at one of her favorite places, Priest Lake, ID surrounded by her family. She was born on June 28th, 1941 to Virginia and Joseph Mottern in St. Maries, ID where she grew up, graduated from St. Maries High School and met her high school sweetheart, Clarion Bergland.
Judy and Clarion were married December 10th, 1960 and made their home in St. Maries for eight years and had their first three children; Todd, Cheryl, and Paul. While raising their first three children, she worked at First Security Bank in St. Maries. She always bragged about how she wore high heels even when pregnant while working at the bank.
In 1968 the couple moved to Spokane where they had three more children, Greg, Mark, and Rebecka. The couple purchased the Valley Dairy Queen on Sprague and Bowdish in 1982, which relocated to Pines Road in 1998. The franchise continues to be family owned and operated to this day. Judy was a successful Dairy Queen owner and was well known in the community by many. She was known for donating to the Children’s Miracle Network, was an active member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, and was a surrogate “mom” and “grandma” to employees, friends of her children and several others.
The loves of her life were her family and traveling. Her favorite spots to travel were the Oregon Coast and Priest Lake. She and Clarion spent many trips walking the beach and looking for treasures. Her family was her greatest joy and bragged about them all the time. She was a lady of many attributes; compassionate, caring, generous, considerate, and mentor who added value to other’s lives. She always had an open ear, an open door, and always offered a shoulder to cry on.
She was preceded in death by Clarion, her loving husband of 48 years, her brother, Eddie and sister, Carol Ann. She is survived by her 6 children (and their loved ones), Todd (Gail), Cheryl, Paul (Lori), Gregg (Carlyn), Mark (Shadeau), and Rebecka (Sean); her 19 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren; her remaining 3 brothers, Joe Joe, Bruce, and John.
Judy is dancing in heaven with her love, Clarion. You will forever be in our hearts. Until we meet again.
Dinner will follow the interment at 1018 N. Fox Rd, Spokane Valley, WA 99206 at 5PM. The family welcomes donations to Children’s Miracle Network and Spokane Shriners Hospital as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers.
