Joyce Mae Horton passed away on October 17, 2011, in Spokane, Washington. The second of six children, she was born on May 3, 1925, to Emil and Florence Burch in Anaconda, Montana. She grew up in several locations in Montana, marrying her first husband, Glenn House when she was 16 years old. They subsequently divorced and she later married Clayton Horton. During her young married life, she lived in Washington, Idaho, Texas, and Mississippi, before settling in Spokane. Joyce was always a hard worker who valued her independence; at home, she loved to read, write poetry, play Scrabble, and do difficult crossword puzzles. Joyce is survived by four children, Daniel Horton, Sharon (Kent) Bunker, Sandra English, and Randell Horton (Sandy Sterling); 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; and two brothers, Darwin and David. She is preceded in death by two of her children, Noreen Martin and William House; her sister, Jean Harton; and two brothers, Donald and Louis Burch.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at 10:00a.m. in the Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park (5200 W. Wellesley Ave., Spokane).
