John Fletcher Staley left to be with Our Heavenly Father on May 26, 2012. He was born to Lindsey Staley and Anona (Clarkson) Staley on Dec. 1, 1929 in Colfax, WA. His family has homesteaded the Staley Ranch in the Pullman, WA area since 1877. John attended the Kemper Military School from 1944 to 1945. He worked on the family wheat ranch most of his young adult years. In 1947, John earned his pilot’s license and flew the family plane to help oversee the Staley Ranch. John also owned and operated Staley Trucking in Pullman, WA. In 1972, John married his very loving wife, Bettye “Moe” (Wadleigh). After meeting Moe, he left wheat ranching and decided to join Moe in real estate and developed the Staley Addition in Pullman. John and Moe lived in Pullman, Hayden Lake, Seattle, Arizona and Spokane. John was an avid trap shooter, and won many awards for his trap shooting skills. He was also an avid golfer and while living in Arizona he participated in the Senior Olympics with the golf team and won a Senior Olympic Medal. John was always a very active member of the Methodist Church in Sun City, AZ where he held several official positions. He is survived by his wife, Bettye “Moe”; his sister, Molly (Jack) Benscoter; his first wife, Melody Coy, and their children, Christina Schafer, “Fletch” Lindsey Staley, and John Staley Jr.; and his stepchildren, Karen Welch, Dr. Mark Wadleigh, and David Randal Wadleigh. He was preceded in death by his father, Lindsey, and mother, Anona, and his sister, Linda. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, June 5th, at 11:00am followed by a light lunch at the Simpson United Methodist Church, 325 NE Maple St., in Pullman, WA. In lieu of flowers, please donate in John’s name to Hospice of Spokane, or a charity of your choice.
