Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 21, 2015. Jim was born on August 1, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri. At the young age of 17, he left high school and joined the Navy, starting his 35 year military career. After leaving the Navy, he joined the Air Force and finally the Air National Guard, where he was a technician in the Tire and Wheel shop until his retirement in 1989. Jim was a military man through and through and very proud of his service. On December 19, 1959, he married Darlene Deycous. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling the United States, spending winters in Sunbeam Lake, California. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage till her death in 2005. After her death, Jim spent his days enjoying his grandsons and starting each day with breakfast at Jenny's Cafe, his home away from home. Jim was a wonderful dad and papa and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his two children Jim (Ruth) of Spokane and Julie Carey (Dave) also of Spokane, his sister Bonnie Lommen of Oregon and his four grandsons, Austin O'Neall, John, Justin and Jacob Carey. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene O'Neall, and parents, James B. and Freda O'Neall. The family would like to thank Guardian Angel Homes, Bungalow House, for all the love and care you gave him the past 6 months. Also to the nurses at Deaconess and the staff at Hospice House South. A celebration of life will be held at Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 S. Pines Rd, on July 8th at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow. Memorial donations may be sent to Union Gospel Mission or to Hospice of Spokane.
