I. June Messinger, 95, of Spokane Valley, passed away January 9th, 2014. She was born in Tacoma, WA on October 23rd, 1918. June graduated from Central Valley High School in 1936 and was married to Robert David “Bud” Messinger on September 4th, 1937. She and Bud raised five children together and purchased the Winona Grocery in October 1953. They added the Winona, Washington Post Office in 1961 when June became Postmaster. In 1965 they purchased and remodeled the Kuehl Hardware store and linked the two buildings, which became the B & J Hardware & Grocery. June loved to camp and fish with Bud and their family and also enjoyed traveling in her retirement years to Alaska, Hawaii and Arizona. Her final retirement residence was at Park Place in Spokane Valley where June passed peacefully surrounded by her family. She is survived by her children: Gary Messinger of Spokane Valley; Vicki and Neil Knapp of Spokane/Deer Lake; David Messinger of Colfax; Lanny Messinger; Bonnie Cooper of Liberty Lake; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, in 2002. At her request, a private family memorial will be planned.
