The defining event in his life, however, was meeting his wife of 70 years, Mavis who died in 2012. They had two children. The family settled in Spokane in 1953, where Hank worked as the Budget Officer at Fairchild. The family enjoyed vacationing at their cabin at Wallowa Lake and boating on Priest Lake. Hank was an avid reader and kept up on current affairs. Hank and Mavis also loved to dance and spend many happy hours on the dance floor with friends.
He fought as a Marine in the Pacific during World War II and was part of the occupation force in a small town outside of Nagasaki, Japan. The local mayor was so relieved at the upstanding behavior of his platoon that he gave him a beautiful tea set.
Hank is survived by his daughter Marilyn, son Steve (wife Chris Middleton), grandchildren Lisa Denman (husband Jason), Dave Procter (wife Marisa), great grandchildren Katie and Hank Denman and Callum Procter, sister Karen Musser, and sister-in-law Elaine Grant.
The family is grateful for the loving care provided by Hospice of Spokane. Instead of flowers, donations may be made to the March of Dimes. Memorial services will be held in the Riverview Retirement home chapel at 2:00PM June 25, 2014.
Arrangements under the direction of Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, Spokane, WA.
