Helen Viola Peha, born January 17, 1918, was the second of four children born to Anna Shourek Peha and John Peha at the family homestead south of Almira WA.The children attended The Lone Pine School and finished their education at the Almira School. Helen graduated in 1935. In October of 1935 she married K.A. (Kotton) Mayberry and they made their home on a farm south of Almira. Helen and Kotton worked together on the farm, enjoyed fishing, boating and waterskiing, snowmobiling and traveling. Helen was an avid gardener, maintaining a beautiful yard and garden wherever she lived. In the winter she enjoyed crocheting and needlework, taking part in Grange contests and reached her goal of a Grand Award at National Grange in 1974 with a cutwork tablecloth. She also liked to play Bridge. In 1971, they retired from farming and moved to a new home in Spokane in 1978. There she continued her love of gardening and playing cards. They also joined an RV group and traveled many places in their motorhome. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in October of 1985 at a reception in Almira. Kotton passed away in 1988 and she continued to live in her home until the early 2000's when she moved to Orchard Crest Retirement Center where she made many friends and went on many outings especially enjoying trips to area casinos. In 2010, she moved to Assisted Living due to failing health and then to Serene Meadows.She is survived by her sister Katherine Zefran of Aurora Illinois, nieces Sharon Ladwig Groh, Micki Ladwig Lupfer and nephews Rod Ladwig, Jim Gollehon, Sid Mayberry and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kotton, her sister Anna Ladwig Houston, her brother Ludwig Peha, nephews Gary Ladwig, Sam Ladwig, Jerry Gollehon, and Larry Peha.
