A landmark passing occurred in our family when Haruko Mukai left for heaven on November 9, 2023
Mom died peacefully at 1:15 am at the Riverview Memory Care center in Spokane, Washington. She was able to say goodbye to all her children before she left. We all spoke with her and told her we loved her. Bob, her oldest son, was the last to speak with her via Facetime where he told her he loved her and that it was okay to go. She was gone in 10 minutes.
Haru is survived by her 4 children, 6 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Haru was born on February 11, 1922 in Seattle, Washington to the Nishimoto family and lived to be 101 years old. She is the third centenarian on her side of the family.
Mom spent close to 70 years on their farm with her husband Yoshio Joe Mukai in Hangman Valley, Spokane where they were legendary in raising some of the most delicious fresh vegetables. They shared with all who stopped by. Her life was a testimony to her values of integrity, honesty, generosity, and family. She gave every moment of her life to the welfare and survival of her family. Starting from nothing in the years following internment from WWII, she and Joe built their farm and family and left this world a better place than when they entered it. She lived focused on today and tomorrow and never bothered to lament the past. Godspeed.
Mom’s viewing will take place on December 1st from 4-8 pm at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home.
Her burial ceremony will be December 2nd, 10:30 am, at Spokane Memorial Gardens at 10:30 am.
The funeral and reception is in the Chapel at the Riverview Assisted Living chapel at 1801 Upriver Drive in Spokane.
