Glenn and I were friends after we both arrived at Fort Ord, CA.,  That was from Feb 8 until we graduated on 17 April 1972, We shared so many Basic Training memories,… far too many for me to remember here but I do remember him talking about Arizona and that he was in the National Guard. Since Facebook has a certain way of finding old friends one of the Fort Ord guys managed to look up his Obiterary.  The last time I talked with Glenn he said he was working as a Post Office Letter Carrier in Scotsdale, AZ., That was after I returned from Germany in 1974. We wrote each other from 1974 until I left for Europe again in 1975. And then I lost touch.  Please accept my condolences for not being able to wish and pray for his soul on this trip to Valhallua and I will always remember him. By the way, if you happened to have a picture of him in Basic Training with us perhaps you could send it. I took a few of us together and gave him copies, not sure if he still had them. At any rate I am so sorry for your loss.

Cynthia, I was saddened to hear of Glenn’s passing, I know he will be missed by you and everyone who knew him.  I was a relatively new Inspector in LA when I met Glenn.  I was assigned to assist (go-fer) on the Ross Mail Bomb Homicide Case.   I remembered at the time being very impressed with Glenn’s investigative skills, and thinking if I were a criminal I would not want Glenn investigating my crime.  Glenn had a great sense of humor too though.  On one occasion, the firearms coordinator in LA teased Glenn about wearing a cowboy hat.  Glenn decided to show the coordinator what a real cowboy looked like so he dressed up complete with Stetson, shirt, vest, chaps and boots.  Dressed like this and carrying a saddle he went down to the coordinator’s office and kicked the door open with his boot and walked in wearing complete cowboy regalia carrying the saddle and said, “This is what a cowboy looks like.”  What he didn’t know was the firearms coordinator was in an interview with an internal affairs investigator discussing an accidental discharge matter.  The firearms coordinator was a pretty good sport.  He just looked up and told the IA guy.  “You see what I have to put up with around here.”  I will miss Glenn but will always have good memories of working with him.

I met Glenn in the 1980s when he was working as a United States Postal Inspector and I was a prosecutor in the United States Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles.  Glenn investigated mail bombings and was renowned in our office for doggedly pursuing leads and tracking down evidence that led to numerous convictions.  He solved one case by tracking down the rental typewriter the suspect had used at his college library to type the address label on the bomb parcel.  Another bombing case, this one resulting in the death of an unintended victim, had gone unsolved for more than 8 years before it was assigned to Glenn.  Within a matter of months, Glenn had tracked down the evidence that identified the person who constructed the bomb and his connection with the person who had placed the contract for the murder.  Their convictions provided a modicum of justice and closure to the family of the victim.

Glenn was humble about his investigative prowess and did not brag about his numerous successes in solving cases where others had failed.  You could rely upon Glenn to track down every lead, ask the right questions, accurately assess credibility, and not overlook anything.  He had a laconic personality reminiscent of John Wayne and a “get off your [rear end] and go knock on some doors” work ethic.  In court, he had a dry sense of humor and was unflappable when cross-examined.  He always had your back and was indefatigable.  It was an honor to work with him.

Cynthia, please know that I and Glenn,even though we were not as close as some, we agreed on most things! He will be missed, and I wish you and yours the very best!
