Entered into the arms of Jesus on Friday, Nov. 23, 2012.
He was born on June 9, 1948 in Spokane WA to Ray and Hazel Wilks.
George attended Elk grade school, graduated from Mead High school and Spokane Community College. He grew up and worked on his parent’s dairy farm in Elk and Chattaroy, WA. He worked for the forestry department and then UPS for several years. He met Janice in 1968 and they were married at the Crestline Nazarene Church in 1969. They made their home in Chattaroy until 1974 when they moved to Deer Park. Their son Chad was born in 1970 and son Justin in 1973. He loved playing "Tonka Trucks" and making sand and mud roads with his boys. As the boys got older, they all rode their motorcycles together. George worked for Acme Concrete for 27 years. During these years he was a member of the Deer Park Nazarene Church then later the First Church of the Nazarene in Spokane. He served on the board of both churches. George's focus was on helping others and went on over 20 mission trips in the US, Samoa, Guatemala, Honduras and Ukraine. At the time of death, George was a valued employee of Hite Crane and Rigging in Spokane Valley. George was known as a "if you don't know how to do it, ask George" kind of guy. He could do it all and fix it all. He would drop everything to help a friend. God, family and friends were his priorities. George is survived and will be so very missed by his wife of 43 years, Janice; his son Rev. Chad Wilks and wife Jamie; his son Justin and wife Holli; seven grandchildren: Lake, Harley, Addison, Lyndie, Kail, Chris and Austin; his mother, Hazel Wilks; brother, Rev Floyd and wife Sharon Wilks; sister, Janet and husband Lew Tomlinson, as well nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his father G. Ray Wilks.
Services will be held Sat. Dec 1st. at 11:00 A.M. at Spokane First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N Country Homes Blvd., with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers the family has asked for memorial contributions to be made in George's name to True Disciples Ministries, in care of Marcia Cyr, 5808 W. 8th. Ave., Kennewick, WA. 99336. Please mark on your check "George Wilks Memorial". It is our hope to be able to build a ministry training center in Honduras.
