George was born in Spokane, the son of Leo and Gladys Giem and lived his entire life in Spokane, passing away March 4, 2014. He graduated from Lewis and Clark H.S. in 1949. He has very fond memories of working on his Family’s ranch in Twin Bridges MT during the summers. He joined the United States Navy and served from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean conflict and was a recipient of the Korean War Medal. He was based on Guam and on the U. S. S. Princeton. He returned to Spokane and attended Eastern Washington University and Kinman Business University. He worked for Firestone in Wenatchee, WA and Inland Power and Light in Spokane. He was a gas serviceman for Washington Water Power Company in Spokane 32 years and retired from there in 1994. He married Barbara Krieg in St. Maries, Idaho in 1963 and together they raised their three children, Susan, John & Cheryl. They enjoyed traveling, camping, boating, and being with their children and grandchildren. In retirement, he walked daily at Northtown Mall and enjoyed bowling and golf. He was an active member of St. Charles Catholic Church and served on the School Board and the Parish Council. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8137, and the Washington Water Power Trailblazers. He served as Secretary and President of the W.W.P. Retirees. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of 50 years at their home. His children, Susan Englert and her husband Jim & their sons, Tyler and his fiancée Demi and Great- Granddaughter Aubrie; Jason and Justin of Missoula, MT; John Giem his children, Lauryn, Austin and Evan and their mother Kristyn; Cheryl Connors & her husband Sean and their son Jakob. His brother in law, Mike Krieg and his wife Georgie Weatherby all of Spokane. Funeral Mass Monday, March 10th at 11am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Interment at Riverside Memorial Park.
