I love thee to the depth and breadth and heights my soul can reach…”
Yes, this is the obituary for Frank Brewer, but it is more the story of his life with his wife and children.
So, we’d like you to meet Frank (Harold) Brewer. He was born on July 9, 1943 in San Bernardino CA. He served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964. On July 11, 1964, when he was 21 years old, he married the love of his life, Bobbi (Barbara) Ayers who was all of 17 years old (well, almost 18) and thus their life together began. Bobbi pretty much came up with ideas and Frank pretty much said “OK” as they pioneered their way from California to Oregon to Washington.
He and Bobbi, with their three children, Michelle (Del), James (Cindy) and Steven (Erin) in tow, left California for Oregon where they tried homesteading in the Oregon mountains. Frank would help anyone, anytime, anywhere. No job was too big if you needed his strong right arm. Of course, not all jobs went quite right and on one occasion, he fell about 30 feet straight down from a pine tree. While he did land on his feet, he also did break a few vertebrae in his back. It was a major hiccup in the story of their lives and a testament to their inner strength and faith in God.
In later years he and Bobbi and the kids all pioneered in the Omak area mountains where they built a house. It was there that they all came to appreciate indoor plumbing as they treked to the outhouse in the winter as nature called. It built character in all of the family don’t you know.
And character and strength they all have. Their parents gave them a solid and true example of a strong marriage, unwavering love and faith in God. The Brewer children have produced Frank and Bobbi’s 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. They are all generating the same love and strength they received from their Dad and Mom, and in their turn, they are passing it on to the next generations.
Humor abounded in the Brewer household, and nothing was so bad it could not have a sunny side. It is part of the glue that has held this family together so well.
On July 11 of this year, Frank and Bobbi celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
Our lives are like a painting, there are sunny, bright areas and they are brought to life by some corresponding dark areas. It takes both the light and the dark along with some intermediate shading to end up with a lovely painting with depth and beauty. Frank and Bobbi have a beautiful painting in the story of their lives together.
As Frank neared the end of his final illness and it became necessary to have a hospital bed, his only concern was that they would not be able to sleep together. So, Bobbi placed a recliner chair so that it was tight against the edge of the hospital bed. They went to sleep that night, facing each other, their heads close and holding hands. Bobbi woke up about 1 AM and they were still holding hands. His other hand rested on her shoulder.
Frank had slipped away to heaven.
“I love thee with the breath, smiles and tears of my whole life. And if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death…”
