Age 95
Kathy was born December 24th, 1927, in Trail City, South Dakota to Anton and Margaret (Schmidt) Mastel. She was the fourteenth child of fifteen children, all of whom proceeded her in death. Kathy moved to Spokane, WA, where she married Gerald G. Holcomb who proceeded her in death. She is survived by her husband of forty years, Robert Baillie; three daughters Pamela (Nick) Stanley, Cheryl Holcomb, Carol (Chuck) Hatcher, and two sons Richard ( Maureen) Holcomb, and Kevin (Shirley) Holcomb, all in Spokane, WA; two step daughters, Cate (Tom) Dowell, and Janet (Fred) Schoenhard; Grandchildren Joshua Stanley, Jared (Ryan) Stanley, Zachary Pullin, Kelsea Pullin, Seth Holcomb, Ray Holcomb, Darin (Kiely) Holcomb, Ryan (Jamie) Holcomb, Austin (Cydney) Hatcher, Ashley (Chris) Fredlund, Cameron Hatcher, Nick (Bethanie) Horn , Hanni (Andrew), Baatz, Tommy (Vanessa) Dowell, Meagan (Matt) Christiansen, Jessica (Shawn) Montague, Kelli (Justin) Overhoff, and several great grandchildren.
Kathy worked for Saint Francis Xavier’s parish as a bookkeeper while her children attended school there. She also worked for Albertsons in the bakery department. She moved to Spokane School’s lunch program, and later returned to Saint Francis Xavier school to co-manage their lunch program. She then worked at Safeway Stores Regional office. She finished her life of work with Kelley services with a position at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was an active member of Saint Francis Xavier’s parish and Saint Jude’s Guild. Kathy was a den mother with the Cub Scouts at St. Xavier’s. In the later years, Kathy moved to Our Lady of Lourdes parish. She enjoyed crocheting, was an avid fan of the Seahawks, and spending time with her husband Bob in Arizona during the winter. She had great pride and love for her Grandchildren and Great grandchildren.
A vigil service for Kathy will be held Monday, March 20, 2023 from 6:30 PM at St Francis Xavier, 545 E Providence, Spokane, WA 99207. The mass of Christian burial will be celebrated also Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM, with the Rite of Committal following at Holy Cross cemetery, 7200 N Wall St, Spokane, WA 99208.
