As a young man Erv’s family moved frequently around the country before settling down in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. There Erv attended Coeur d’ Alene Senior High School, graduating in 1961.
Two years later Erv would marry his high school sweetheart Patricia in December of
1963. After being drafted into the Army in 1965 the young couple moved to California
where they welcomed their first son, Erin. A few years later the family would return to
Idaho where they would have their second son, Tyler. After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1972, they settled in the Spokane area, living and working there until their separation in 1979.
It was during this time that Erv began pursuing his education and career as a golf Pro.
Attending both North Idaho Junior College and Spokane Community College, majoring in Business Administration and completing his professional golf certification at the P.G.A Business School in 1969.
Erv’s true passion was golf. He was an accomplished golfer, earning his Class A PGA
card in 1974. With this, he worked and taught across multiple courses in California,
Idaho and Washington for two decades. In 1973 Erv became the Golf Manager for the
city of Spokane until 1981. He went on to play in over a dozen Spokane Lilac
Tournaments between 1991 and 2013. He then went on to teach in Idaho for a time
before beginning his second career working as a salesperson in Punchboards, Pull
Tabs, and Bingo supplies until his retirement in 2004.
While working as the Golf Manager for the city of Spokane, Erv would meet and marry
his second wife Carole Ann in 1982. It was with this marriage that Erv’s family grew with the addition of Carole Ann’s son Christopher. Together they enjoyed traveling, boating and spending time with their grandchildren. In 1992 the couple purchased a home just off the 18th hole at the Fairways golf course. There he would spend much of his free time at home practicing his grip, his swing, and his putting, with golf tournaments perpetually playing on the television. Erv and Carol Ann were married for an incredible forty one years until her passing this past December.
Erv dedicated his life to his profound passion for golf, it was not merely a sport but a
guiding philosophy for life. In this game, one must play the ball where it lies. The true
essence of golf is clearing the mental clutter from past failures and tackling new
obstacles with a fresh perspective, a focused mind, and determination. Embracing each day with the understanding that we cannot alter our past failures, but we can learn valuable lessons to improve on mistakes leading us on a path of growth. In Erv's
philosophy, the key lies in approaching life with the resilience to learn and enhance
ourselves while moving forward. While a birdie may not come on the current hole or the next, it is a belief that somewhere in the near future, a small victory awaits each of us.
Ervin is survived by his Step Father Ken, Sister Cindy, Sons Erin and Tyler, Step Son
