Age 95
Edward W. Kochel, of Spokane, WA age 95 years old was welcomed into eternity with Christ. He was born April 28, 1923 in Knowlton, MT and passed away in Spokane, WA January 17, 2019.
Ed graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1942 and entered the Navy in December, 1942 during WWII, spending two years on the aircraft carrier Intrepid. He then married Gloria V. Johnson of Coeur d’Alene, ID on August 28, 1949 and later re-entered the Navy, with over a year’s service during the Korean Conflict with the destroyer USS Hale. He attended University of Idaho and Eastern Washington State College.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria V. Kochel and survived by two sons and their wives; Timothy Kochel and Mark Kochel, also six grandchildren and two great grandchildren of Spokane, WA.
Ed was employed for 28 years by the Spokane School District. He was a member of Spokane First Assembly of God, where he taught Sunday School and was involved with the boy’s group, Royal Rangers for many years.
He gave generously of his time to volunteer with elementary school reading, church building in Alaska, Special Olympics, and Bloomsday events. He will be missed.
A burial with Military Honors is scheduled Thurs., Jan. 24, 2019 at 10:30am at WA State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W. Espanola Rd., Medical Lake, WA
