November 6, 1956- March 6, 2024
Age 67
Douglas Alan Tapscott, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend to all passed away peacefully with his family at his side on March 6, 2024.
Doug was born to Shirley and Jack on November 6, 1956 in Eugene, OR. During his toddler years his family transferred to Spokane. Doug graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1975. After high school, he immediately started his formal education. Doug was privileged to be an Eagle, a Vandal and a Pirate! He earned a BA from EWU, Teaching Certification from Whitworth University and a Master’s of Education from the University of Idaho.
Doug met the love of his life, Bonnie, in 1983. They married in 1985 and had three wonderful sons while he was teaching elementary school in Idaho. After his teaching career, Doug returned to EWU to obtain his counseling certification. Doug then became a Counselor with Spokane Regional Health District. He just retired in June of 2023. He soon became a board member with Caritas Outreach Food Bank.
Doug found such joy in his life! He always lived each day as though it were his last. Some of the many activities he enjoyed were planting his garden, music, playing his guitar, attending movies and live theatre. Doug was an avid swimmer (as he grew up at a lake place and had a swimming pool in the backyard). Throughout most of his life he loved both snow and water skiing. Bonnie and Doug loved to travel. They sailed on 5 cruises and took a European Tour of Prague, Vienna and Budapest.
Probably the biggest joy in his life was his family! This was the center of his universe, especially when his first Grandson was born. “Pops”, as so referred, was a very proud Grandfather.
Doug is preceded in death by Shirley, his mother and Jack, his father. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of 38 years, sons, Nick (Brittany), Dustin, Brad (Kristin), sister Jan Kingsley, grandsons, Nixon, Bennett, Dillon, Trevor and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In honor of Doug and in lieu of flowers, please donate to St. David’s Episcopal Church 7315 N Wall St. Spokane, WA 99208 or Caritas Outreach Food Bank 1228 W Nebraska Ave. Spokane, WA 99205. Celebration of Life will be held at St. David’s Episcopal Church 2pm on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
