Doris “Shelley” Cook a resident of Spokane for over 60 years, passed away on September 11, 2010 surrounded by her family. Shelley was born in 1913 at Woodside, Montana the fourth of six children. In 1943 she moved to Spokane to raise two daughters as a single mother. She spent 15 years in the restaurant business associated with the Davenport Hotel, Caravan Inn, Madge’s Hedge House and Templin’s in Coeur d’Alene. While working at Templin’s she met the love of her life, Lt. Col George Cook and remarried in 1960 at the Little Glass Chapel, Rancho Palos Verde, CA. She spent the next 17 years living in various locations while her husband worked in the aerospace industry before returning to Spokane in 1977. Shelley had a kind and giving heart and was always looking for ways to help others, from volunteering her time as a driver for the American Cancer Society, to helping a neighbor, friend or family member. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Riverview Care Center for your kind and loving care of their mother over the last few years. Shelley is survived by two daughters; Betty Milam, Casper, WY; Beverly McIntosh, Spokane, WA; two step-daughters, Gail Lafontaine of Edwall, WA; Sandra Ray, Hackleburg, AL; one sister, Joyce Donald, Moses Lake, WA; 14 grand children, 19 great grand children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. George Cook, Sisters, Grace Reed, Marie Edwards of Anaconda, MT and brothers Charles Johnson, Hamilton, MT and James Johnson, Missoula, MT. Private interment will take place at Riverside Memorial Cemetery, Spokane, WA. Memorial contributions are suggested to the organization of your choice. Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home 1306 N.
