Donovan "Don" James Postlewait

Donovan James Postlewait passed away Thanksgiving Day November 26th of cancer. He was born in Chewelah WA on April 27th, 1929. Don grew up in Nine Mile Falls, his parents, Levi "Buzz" and Araminta migrated to Spokane from Punxsutawney, PA in 1901. He was preceded in death by his four siblings; Jack, Tom, Mae and Levi. Don grew up on "the farm" until he was sixteen. He attended a one-room school house, Central Grade School, and then went to Reardan High School. After a brief amount of time living in California with Mae and her husband, Don moved back to Spokane in 1947 and trained to be an iron worker. Don met the love of his life, Bernice Knox soon after moving back to Spokane. They married on October 16th, 1949 and recently celebrated their 66th year anniversary. They moved to Soap Lake to start their new life where he worked on the Soap Lake Siphon project. Don often worked on hydroelectric construction jobs and other projects around the region. They moved back to Spokane where he joined Central Pre-Mix. He worked at Pre-Mix Pre-Stress plant for 30 years, retiring in 1990 as plant supervisor. Don was a construction expert, building his own house and helping friends and family with their endeavors. Don had a love and a passion for the beauty and tranquility of the farm where he grew up. From hunting to 4th of July parties, fixing fence and raising cattle, it remained his favorite place and a gathering point for family and friends. He was loved by all. Don leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion and friendship. His impact on the lives of those around him was powerful and everlasting. He will be missed by all. Don is survived by his 6 children; Janet (Rick) Kent WA, Jim (Janine) New Zealand, John (Seattle), Judy (Tom) Spokane, Jill (Rick) Bellevue, and Jeff (Julia) Spokane. Don and Bernice have 26 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral will be at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 North Monroe Street, Saturday, Dec 5th at 1:00PM. Reception to follow at 4:00PM, location to be announced.
