One of two sons, Don was born in Darrington, WA, on June 19, 1924 to Harry J. Cadden and Mary (Roderick) Cadden. He graduated from Monroe High School, Monroe, WA. During WWII Don saw duty in the Army Transport Service. In September 1946, he entered the Oregon Province of the Society of Jesus. After the regular course of studies in spirituality, philosophy, practical ministry, and theology, Fr. Don was ordained to the priesthood on June 14, 1958.
During his many years of ministry, Fr. Cadden served as a parish priest, a high school teacher (Gonzaga Prep, Spokane) and a chaplain at Fort Wright College and Sacred Heart Medical Center, both in Spokane. In his later years of life, Fr. Cadden was a sculptor in residence at Gonzaga University; his talent led him to create works of art using metal. His greatest passion, however, which he covered with a gruff exterior, involved his ministry to people. Fr. Don made many friends over the years working in schools, hospitals, and parishes.
Fr. Cadden is survived by his two nephews, Patrick Cadden and Michael Cadden. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jerry.
