Dennis graduated from North Eastern High School in Detroit Michigan in June 1957.
He had a passion for ballroom dancing, photography and gymnastics. In his younger years, he was an avid ice skater. He enjoyed working with youth as an umpire for Little League. In his teen years, as YMCA junior leader, he won many honors and fitness awards. He joined the Navy right after graduating High School and joined the Coast Guard Reserves when he moved to Spokane, WA in 1974.
Dennis married Rita Maureen Levering on December 19, 1970.
Dennis retired from Nova Industries where he worked as a Software Programmer. In previous years he worked at Aero Space Corporation, Litton Industries, Burroughs Corporation (where he met his wife), the Red Lion, in the engineering department, and the Spokane County Health District.
Dennis was a member of the Spokane Valley Elks Lodge 2328 and Greater Spokane Lodge 228 for 29 years, where he served in many positions of leadership for the betterment of the lodge. He orchestrated an event to honor the ladies of the Elks, for all their hard work and donations. He was also a member of the Valley Eagles Lodge 3433, where he and Rita treasured having dinner, dancing, playing darts, and conversing with other members.
Performing with the Valley Showtime Review Group was a favorite pastime for Dennis for many years. He impersonated George Jones, Elvis Presley, Ray Orbison and many other artists. One of his favorite numbers was “A Hole in the Bucket,” where he and Rita, always managed to fill the room with laughter.
Dennis is survived by his wife: Rita, children: Robert, Shawn, and Travis, brother: Raymond, and five grandchildren: Robert, Amber, Cody, Tyler and Sarah.
A service will be held at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery at 9:45am, November 18, 2016. A memorial will be held at the Spokane Valley Eagles at 12:00pm.
