Oh wow, can't believe you are gone. When Bill and my Mom split, I lost track of Bill's side of the family, and then to rediscover you, and find you're gone...I've missed you cousin...I've missed half my family! Funny thing is, I loved biking as much as you appeared to...we'd have had fun together!

So many memories of Dave during my time as a GEG-based flight attendant. He was the FA Supervisor in Spokane which was certainly a challenge as we opened a new base and were all a bunch of newbies! Two incidents stand out. One was how he took my flights the day I hit black ice and crashed into the basalt near the airport on my way to work. The other was an amazing meal that Dave, Jackie Chalmers and I shared at Dahlia Lounge in Seattle. I can't look at a bottle of Coppola Claret without thinking of Dave. RIP, dear friend.


I knew David from eGullet.org.  Don’t let anyone tell you that internet friendships are somehow “less” than real life friendships.  David was absolutely a true friend to all of us at eGullet.  He was the sweetest and most generous of people.  I was trying to tell my husband what made David so special.  I loved that he was so knowledgeable about fine and elegant foods and still appreciated simple home cooking.  He was thrilled when I sent him 30+ year old copies of Taste of Home magazine from my grandmother's home and was proud of the fact that he had had some of his recipes published in the magazine.   His service to eGullet was complete and I don't know that his shoes can be filled there.  I will miss his kindness and sense of humor so much.  


We, the members of The Society for Culinary Arts and Letters, have been collectively grieving for David's loss and celebrating his life. Some of us have posted here, but many others have chosen to post their reminiscences on the Society's forum.

I only knew David through eGullet and it will not be the same without him. He was always willing to share his knowledge with and to encourage others. We will all miss him so much.
My condolences to his family for your great loss.

Dave was my supervisor at Horizon Air for many years.  He was a kind Man  a great cook and an even better supervisor.  
I have so many memories of Dave and will miss him 

David was a fellow host on eGullet.org, the web site for The Society of Culinary Arts and Letters. I was always impressed by his knowledge and love of food, his inventive and delicious recipes, and the beauty of the foods he cooked. He was a generous person, always happy to share knowledge and eager to encourage people. I never heard him say a discouraging word to or about anyone. That's increasingly rare in today's internet. It was clear from his writing that he held his growing-up years and his family dear.

The world is much, much poorer without him in it. My heartfelt condolences go to those who loved him in person, whose loss is huge.

David was a fellow volunteer on eGullet, and always had an interesting anecdote or wonderful recipe to share, even when he was recovering from one surgery or another. I never had a chance to meet him in person, yet I have no words for how much I'll miss his presence.
