Dale Francis Curtis peacefully passed away at home on Friday, December 14, 2012. He leaves behind his sons, Michael (Rosie), David (Lori), Mark Curtis (Tom McDonald), daughter Vivian McMahon (Murray), 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and his sister Joan Engles.
Dale was born in Tomahawk, Wisconsin on August 23, 1934, to Clarence W and Alice Curtis. After high school in Canyon City, Oregon, Dale joined the U.S. Air Force. When he was stationed at Fairchild, AFB, he met and married the love of his life, Joan Barbour on October 22, 1955. In 1972, after serving 21 years, Dale retired from the Air Force at the rank of Master Sergeant and settled in the Chewelah area, where he opened his auto body shop. He then went to work at ALCOA from 1976-2001. During this time, he again felt the need to serve his country and was commissioned in the Washington National Guard, retiring as a Colonel in 1994. Mr. Curtis enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his children and grandchildren hunting and fishing.
Dale Curtis will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Joan in a grave side service held at 1 p.m. on December 21st at Fairmont Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Thursday, December 20th and Friday, December 21st 9-11 am at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home.
