years, passed away on March 16, 2025 at the age of
87. She had lived in Spokane for more than 20
years, but previously had been a farmwife east of
Davenport. She started out teaching home
economics and English at Reardan High School from
1959 to 1964, taught in Creston School District and
then taught night school in many rural
communities in Lincoln County for the Washington
Extension Service for a few years. She taught
Sunday school and was the head of the program at
Davenport Presbyterian Church for 29 years. She
was on the Davenport school board, was a
substitute teacher for Davenport school district and
she was a committee member for countless school
events. She helped with her three daughters’ 4H
clubs, FFA chapter events and always came prepared
with a homemade treat. She won many awards for
her baking with the Washington Wheat Growers
Association and she won many quilting and sewing
ribbons at the Lincoln County Fair. She sewed the
dresses for the Davenport float court, and she made
many costumes for school, church and different
community plays. Bev was one of the leading ladies
of Davenport in her day, she loved being a farm wife
and mother. Her home, yard, and garden were
spectacular, and she was the perfect hostess for
many dinners and parties. She excelled at feeding
the haying and harvest crews, and they even got
hot, homemade meals in the field.
Bev was a member of the Town and Country Study
Club for at least 53 years and treasured all of the
ladies in the group as dear friends. She grew up in
the era of sewing, hand quilting, knitting, home
cooking, canning, having a garden, and raising and
butchering beef… and she made it all look easy.
She raised three daughters, Amy, location
unknown, Molly, who passed away in 2014, and
Beth, who lived in Greenacres. Her best gift,
however, was to help raise her grandsons, Warrick
and Wyatt Duarte, and she was so very proud of
them and enjoyed them tremendously. She divorced
Don when she was 56, and moved to Spokane, which
broke her heart, as she had to leave her farm and
friends.
She a went on to have a very successful long-arm
machine quilting business and used her sewing
and quilting talents at craft shows for years. She
stayed in touch with her friends from all over
Lincoln County and the study club ladies, and was
active at church. She never stopped being the best
hostess and keeping her yard and garden perfect.
She enjoyed her neighbors and the giving them
homemade food or gifts from her garden. Bev was
always known to give to charities, often doing free
quilting for many special events or to benefit the
less fortunate with auctioned items. She was a
life-long member of the Washington State
University Cougar Club, and was a Golden Grad
several years ago.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents, Sepher
and Imo Johnson, and her daughter Molly. She
leaves her much adored siblings, her sister, Bobbie
Larson (Brian Schreck), Butch (Kymn) Johnson, and
Bruce (Marge, deceased) Johnson. She had numerous
nieces and nephews and a group of cousins in
Michigan. She greatly enjoyed family events and
was still visiting her sister and brothers regularly,
despite her physical health. She felt family bonds
were the glue that kept her together, and she leaves
an immense sense of loss in the extended Johnson
family.
Her memorial service will be April 12th at 10 am at
Millwood Presbyterian Church. Reception with light
refreshments to follow.
