Barbara was born November 25, 1938, in Spokane, to Edward and Clara Krieg of St. Maries, Idaho. After she graduated from St. Maries High School in 1956, Barbara moved to Spokane where she attended Gonzaga University for one year. She, then, went to Kinman Business University and graduated in 1958.
Barbara married George Giem of Spokane in 1963 and together they raised their three children, Susan, John and Cheryl. They enjoyed traveling, boating, and gardening and being with their children and grandchildren.
Barbara worked as a secretary in Spokane for many years at various businesses. She was a Water Safety Instructor at the YWCA and also volunteered for the YWCA Adapted Aquatic Program. She worked part time for four years at Spokane Community College while she attended S.C.C. and was enrolled in the Medical Secretarial Program and earned a certificate in Medical Transcription.
Barbara was an active member of St. Charles Catholic Church and past member of St. Dymphna Guild and St. Charles Altar Society. She was also involved in the Home & School Association when her children were attending school at St. Charles. She was a Camp Fire Leader many years and served on different committees with that organization.
For 13 years, Barbara worked as the Administrative Assistant of the Gonzaga University Health Center. She attended Gonzaga while working there and graduated with a Bachelor of General Studies Degree in Organizational Leadership and Religious Studies. She retired from G.U. in 2000.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, George Giem. She is survived by her children; Susan Englert & her husband Jim and their sons, Tyler and Demi and great-grandaughter Aubrie, Jason all of Missoula, MT, and Justin of Anchorage, AK John Giem & his wife Judi and his children, Lauryn, Austin & Evan of Spokane. Cheryl Connors & her husband Sean and their son Jakob of Spokane. Her brother, Mike Krieg and his wife Georgie Weatherby of Spokane.
A funeral mass will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at St. Charles Parish, located at 4515 N Alberta St, Spokane. A committal service will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, 211 N. Government Way, Spokane. Professional services conducted by Ball and Dodd Funeral Home.
