Alice Lorraine “Rusty” Gamble (age 90) passed away quickly and quietly at home March 31, 2017 in Spokane, WA. The 2nd of nine children, she was born June 26, 1926 in Hibbing, MN to Charles and Jeanette Lengstorf.
She grew up in Big Fork, MN and stayed in a dormitory while attending high school in Deer River. After her graduation in 1944 she worked in the hospital in Big Fork.
In October, 1947 she married James “Jim” Gamble, a union that lasted 55 years, until Jim’s passing in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Robin; her five brothers, Charles, John, Cliff, Walt and Floyd; and one sister, Eileen.
Alice worked as a bookkeeper for ALSCO Linen for 21 years, retiring in 1987. In her earlier years she loved making her yard beautiful. She also loved sewing and quilting, but her greatest joy came from spoiling with her grandkids and great grandkids, who have wonderful memories of baking cookies with her.
A longtime member of Country Homes Christian Church, she enjoyed being part of their women’s group and quilting group. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Hillyard.
Alice is survived by two sisters, Laura (Gene) Rajala and Cecelia Bertram; daughter, Susan (Gene) Phinney; granddaughters, Janelle (Lyle) Christofferson and Stacy (Mike) Franklin; grandsons, Matthew Anderson and Nathan Anderson; great grandkids, Brian & Katie Christofferson, Koryn Damiano Franklin, Lexi Franklin; and many nieces and nephews.
A private family service was held. Memorial contributions may be made to Country Homes Christian Church, 8415 N. Wall St., Spokane 99208.
