Winnifred Lois Kline Smith Korsborn Walters Main passed away at home in Spokane, Washington December 14, 2021. Winnie was born December 9, 1923 on an Iowa farm to Allan Blair Kline and Gladys Remer Kline. She had just turned 98 years old and lived a full and complete life.
While at Iowa State College she met and married Melvin Graves Smith, a civil engineer. He served in the Pacific Theater during WWII as a flight engineer on a B-29 and Winnie joined the WAVES and became a Link instructor at the Atlanta Naval Air Station. Following the war, they moved to Spokane where Melvin worked as a civil engineer, and Winnie taught kindergarten and became president of Spokane Children’s Theater. Melvin passed away May 1, 1966.
Winnie then earned her Master’s Degree from Eastern State College. In 1968 she met and married Elton H. Korsborn. Winnie taught at various colleges in the Spokane area, ending her career at Whitworth College. When she retired Winnie and Elton enjoyed extensive traveling until Elton’s death in 1988. In 1974, Winnie studied Graphoanalysis and became expert, lecturing on cruise ships for many years about the benefits of understanding people through their handwriting. In 1992 she married Peter A. Walters. They remained married until his death in 2001. In 2004 Winnie married Kenny Main from her home state of Iowa. They enjoyed a wonderful relationship until his death in 2016.
Throughout her life Winnie attended church and since 1947 was a member of the Congregationalist community, supporting its missions locally, nationally, and internationally.
