Roger was born in Spokane to David and Mary Schmick on February 22, 1967. He grew up and lived in the Spokane Valley area until 1987 when he moved to Phoenix, Arizona to follow his newfound passion, Hydraulics. In Phoenix, Roger met his first wife, Tamara, and moved to Minnesota in 1990. His first daughter, Tia, was born in 1992, passing shortly after. Roger and Tamara separated soon after.
Roger later met Julie in a chance encounter at the Mall of America, somehow still finding each other amongst the legions of tourists. They both loved country dancing, enjoyed concerts, and roamed the local Menards sharing stories. Roger and Julie married in the spring of 1994 and had 3 beautiful daughters: Katlynn, Sarah, and Hannah. Together they spent countless hours on projects around the house, sharing long talks on the road, and pushing him through the occasional procrastinated expense report.
In 2016, Roger and their family returned to Spokane. To do so, he cold-called Hydra-Power Systems and got himself an interview and was hired on the spot. Once back in Spokane, he and Julie started planning the next chapter, helping the girls work through school and making plans to eventually move up on the hill near his parents, David and Mary.
A funeral service for Roger will be held Saturday, April 8, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N Pines Rd, Spokane Valley, WA 99206. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service at 3:00 PM at the Colfax Cemetery, Hwy 272, Colfax, WA 99111.
