Joseph Anthony Kowalski passed away Oct. 16, 2022 at the age of 78 at his home in Otis Orchards, WA. He was born on July 17, 1944 in Chewelah, WA at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was the fifth child of George and Louise Kowalski. Joe was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Otis Orchards.
Joe was truly born in the wrong century as he loved being a “Mountain Man” with buckskin coat, pants, moccasins, complete with his bowie knife and bear claw necklace. Joe had lived in Alaska and Montana for a while in his younger years and chose to settle in Otis Orchards. He worked as a night watchman and a machine maintenance repairman at a cabinetry manufacturer until his retirement. He loved working with wood, reading, and collecting antiques. He would talk fondly of fishing for Arctic Grayling in Alaska and Brown Trout in Washington. Joe didn’t think too much of some modern conveniences. He would have been happiest on some mountain in a log cabin sitting by the fire. Joe will surely be missed by friends and family.
He is survived by two brothers and two sisters, Francis Gumm, John Kowalski, Robert (Letha) Kowalski and Helen (Angello) LaPolla, many nieces and nephews and dear friends.
A mass will be held at St. Joseph Parish, 4521 N. Arden Rd., Otis Orchards, WA on October 26, 2022 at 11:00 am followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. Donations can be made in his name to St. Joseph’s Parish in Otis Orchards, WA.
