(age 96)
John passed away on October 21, 2023, at home, with his son and daughter at his side. The date of his passing also marked his 69th wedding anniversary to his sweetheart, Dolores, who passed unexpectedly, one week earlier.
John was born February 10, 1927, in Richland Washington to John William Skelton of Seaton Cumberland England, and Polly Maude Dunk of Hastings England.
John was honorably discharged from the US Navy in 1946 where he served on a mine sweeper in the Philippines. After his discharge, John returned to Walla Walla where he married the love of his life, Dolores Jensen. John went on to be a salesman for Borden’s. From Borden’s, he continued in the grocery business and became president of Fenwick Pickett Food Brokerage. In 1996 he was president of the Spokane Country Club. Loving the game of golf, John was proud to have golfed his age into his late 80’s. He enjoyed boating on Lake Coeur d’Alene with his wife, grandkids, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Dolores, brother Dave Skelton of Olympia, Sister Dorothy Garner, and brother-in-law Jack Garner of Walla Walla. He is survived by son Richard Skelton (Liberty Lake), daughter Carol Skelton-Sensenig and grandsons, Reid Sensenig and Matthew Sensenig of Atlanta.
He was a kind and caring father and loyal friend. We loved him so very much and will miss him dearly.
At his request, a private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a Spokane charity of your choice.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.HazenJaegerValley.com for the Skelton family.
