Gil was born in Zap, North Dakota in 1926 to John and Pauline Fischer, the oldest of three children. Gil was a hard worker, employed in a number of occupations throughout his life. He retired from construction work in 1986 and was able to focus on his real love, living out his faith by volunteering and helping others.
Gil was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kay Fischer, his brother Elmer and sister Lorraine, two sons Bruce (Linda) Fischer, Barry Fischer, step-children Teri (Bob) Hughes, David Skeels, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A visitation will be held at Thornhill Valley Chapel in Spokane Valley on Thursday, October 25th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Gil’s Life will be held at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church on Friday, October 26th at 1:00 p.m., reception following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Gil’s name may be made to Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels, where Gil served as a volunteer for over 30 years, or Spokane Valley United Methodist Church.
