Jerry entered into rest on November 22, 2010. Jerry was born in Spokane on June 17, 1933 to Leo and Mildred Cross. Shortly after Jerry was born his mother passed away, and Jerry was lovingly cared for and raised by Clyde and Jennie Silvey. Jerry grew up in Hillyard and attended Columbia Grade School and went on to attend Rogers High School where he graduated in 1951. Jerry was most active in the Pep Band at Rogers where he played the tenor sax. He also enjoyed playing on weekends for dances around the Spokane area. He carried his love for music all of his life, with a real love for the big band era. Jerry always talked about how growing up during that time was so much simpler, and always enjoyed telling stories of the harmless pranks he and friends would play, Jerry was a story teller.
Jerry met the love of his life, Jennie (Sgotti) Cross and they married Ocotber 15, 1955 at Saint Ann's Catholic Church. They were happily married for 55 years and lived in the Spokane Valley all their married life. Jerry worked various jobs through the years, one being a delivery driver for the Early Dawn Diary that was located in the Valley. Later in years he went on to work in the hospitality business, and just before he retired he was the club manager of the Eagles Lodge on Francis.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife Jennie Cross, his children Julie (Patrick) Betterton, Jeff (Lynn) Cross. Grandchildren Alex (Amber) Cross, Brynne (Paul) Schmaltz, Tyler (Darci) Gates, Carson Betterton, Chuck (Kerri) Parker, Brad (Natalie) Parker, Kaelene (Dave) Scoville. Great-grandchildren Jensen Gates, Sarah Parker, CJ Parker, and Addie Parker.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 29, 2010 from 1-3PM at Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 S. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley. Jerry's life will be celebrated on November 30, 2010 in a private family service.
