Gail McGinnis passed away on Friday October 19, 2018, at age 59. Gail is survived by her husband Don McGinnis; her daughter Michelle (McGinnis) Colt, son-in-law Mike Colt, and grandson Nolan Colt; her daughter Leslie McGinnis; her parents Art and Joann Tupper; and siblings Teri and Garry Tupper. Gail loved her pets and is also survived by her springer spaniel dogs, Daphne and Tansy, and Siamese kitty Chloe. We all miss her terribly. She is also survived by many beautiful gardens and plants that she nurtured over her precious life.
Gail was born in Spokane, Washington along with her twin brother Gary, on November 7, 1958. She attended Trentwood Elementary School where she first met her future husband, Don, in the first grade. Gail and Don began dating when they were 17 at East Valley High School were they graduated in 1977. They were married June 23, 1979. They lived on Evergreen Road and lived there when Gail gave birth to her two daughters Leslie and Michelle. Gail and Don purchased property in the foothills below Mt. Spokane, near the Foothills Community Church, and finished building their home in 1992.
Gail worked as a nurse at Sacred Heart Medical Center for 25 years, and began working at the Spokane VA Hospital in 2004. Gail worked at the VA for 14 years and was well-loved by both patients and co-workers. She participated on many committees and was always the one to organize a co-workers birthday cake or a potluck.
Gail loved the outdoors, gardening, fishing, beach combing, quilting, and huckleberry picking. Gail was part of several gardening and quilting clubs. She enjoyed "treasure hunting" on the beach, looking for agates, shells, and sea glass. Gail loved making displays of the treasures she found on cruises with Don, her parents, and her siblings. She enjoyed her fishing trips in Canada. The walls of her home are full of photos of big fish. Gail was so overjoyed at the birth of her grandson, Nolan, in February of 2018. She loved him so much and spent much of her last day playing with him. Her loss was sudden, and we hope that she is watching over her family from Heaven.
Services for Gail will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at the Foothills Community Church, 11102 N. Forker Rd., Spokane, WA 99217 with a reception to follow. Gail chose to be cremated so that her ashes could be with her family and in her favorite places.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, we ask that you direct memorial donations to the Foothills Community Church, in gratitude for their support during this time of grief.
