Florence passed away on September 13, 2022 comfortably in bed in her own home and was very much loved by family and caregivers alike. She is survived by her son, David Orcutt, daughter, Gloria (Bob) Newman, and grandson, Branin Orcutt. She was preceded in death by her husband Carroll Orcutt, her mother, Stella Wildman, her mother-in-law Florence M. Orcutt and her grandson Cory Orcutt.
Florence W. Wildman was born in Sumatra, Montana on August 29, 1925. Following graduation from high school she attended college, received her teaching degree and accepted her first teaching job in Missoula. After moving to Spokane, she landed her first Washington state teaching position at Central Valley high school as an art teacher. It was there that she met and married her husband, Carroll Orcutt on June 10, 1950. Together they raised 2 children, David and Gloria and several beloved family dogs. When the kids were old enough to go to school, Florence returned to teaching at Glover Jr. High where she taught Home Economics to complete a 30 year teaching career. During her teaching career, she also found time to continue her education by attending night classes to earn a Masters degree from Whitworth.
She loved spending her summers traveling and camping with the family and also building and enjoying the family cabin on the Pend Oreille River. When time allowed she was an active member in her sorority Alpha Chi Omega attending various events and was also an avid bridge player. She loved to attend the Spokane Symphony concerts and was an active member of St. David’s Episcopal Church.
After retiring, Florence continued to play bridge with a couple of groups, attended exercise classes, participated on bowling leagues, joined an investment club, continued to listen to the symphony, and was an avid gardener. She and Carroll traveled abroad to Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Italy, France, Australia and New Zealand.
She will be greatly missed by many.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
