Ella Marie Denny

Ella Marie (Spell) Denny of Spokane Valley, WA passed away peacefully at her home on May 27, 2023. Husband, Jack Denny preceded her in death. Ella was born to Carl & Violet Racus of Wenatchee, WA on July 9, 1927. She was the oldest of three children. Her two youngest brothers also preceded her in death.

She had three children with her husband Gordon Spell: Chris Spell (deceased), Catherine (John) Bliss of Surprise, AZ and Cindy (Pete) Varela of Liberty Lake, WA. She was blessed with eight grandchildren: Dave (Stacie) Byus, Chris (Trudy) Byus, Aimee Byus, Heather (Robert) Fairbairn, John (Amber) Conant, Sarah (Ryan) Graczyk, Clayton (Nicole) Spell, and Kate (Spell) Brashares. Ella’s blessings include nineteen great grandchildren and two soon to be born great, great grandchildren, a boy in July and a girl in November 2023.

Ella had a strong work ethic throughout her life. She sold shoes as a young teenager and later graduated from secretarial school. Her work history included a long career as the real estate assistant for a well-respected attorney in the Spokane Valley, retiring after thirty years of service.

Ella was loved and appreciated by family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and clients. She had a passion for quilting, which brought warmth and joy to family and others. Reading two books at a time, embroidering, doing puzzles and crosswords and walking her dog filled her days. Her dog Benji and cat Stella were her constant companions until her death. They are truly mourning her absence.

Our beloved Mother, with son Chris, will rest alongside her parents at Stemilt Hill Orchard Cemetery in Wenatchee, WA.

A Memorial Service will be held June 21, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Valley Assembly of God, 15618 E. Broadway Ave., Spokane Valley, WA. (Chapel is on the south side of the church.) In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Childhood Cancer Organization of the Inland Northwest.
