Donna was born September 30, 1923, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was an only child, and her parents, George Ensign Cunliffe and Letha Boice Cunliffe, loved to spoil her. Donna lived in the Upper Bingham Canyon within the copper mine community, southwest of Salt Lake City, until she was nine. When the copper mine closed during the Great Depression, her father was laid off and they moved to South-Central Los Angeles, California. It was there that she met John Haycock when she was 15 years old. He passed her a note during church and years of flirting began. “He made my skirt twirl,” Donna later said. They were married on December 14, 1944, in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple while he was serving in the Coast Guard during the Second World War.
Donna lived in Yucaipa, California, a small rural community, from 1955 to 1992. Yucaipa was where she and Johnny reared their three children, Russell, Gloria and Sally, and served many people in the community and church.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life. She served a mission with her husband from 1984 to 1985 in Denver, Colorado. After her husband died in 1988, Donna became a temple worker in the Los Angeles LDS Temple and then served a second mission in Laie, Hawaii at the Polynesian Cultural Center.
She leaves behind a legacy of optimism, strength, humor and faith for her children and grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.
Donna is survived by her three children, J. Russell Haycock (Silvia), Gloria Linerud (Denny), and Sally Pulsipher (Douglas); 13 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Donna died peacefully, surrounded by her family, in Post Falls, Idaho. She will be interred next to her husband in Redlands, California.
Memorial services will be held at 11 am on June 27, 2023, at the LDS Chapel located at 4014 South Bowdish Road, Spokane Valley, Washington, 99209. The internment will be on June 29, 2023, at 11 am, at the Hillside Memorial Park, 1540 Alessandro Road, Redlands, CA 92373.
