Dennis Arthur Nay, 60, of Spokane, Washington, passed away 13 Oct 2011 at Deaconess Medical Center after suffering a long battle with cancer. He was born in Bellevue, OH on August 1, 1951, a son of Donald Duvall and the late Doris Jean, née Champlain, Nay.
He attended Bellevue, Ohio schools, graduating with the class of 1969. During his military career, he attended many technical training schools and the University of Maryland. After his retirement, he took several correspondence school classes for computer networking and repair.
He married the former Katharine Elizabeth, née Amidon, Geib on January 7, 1988 in Coeur d’Alene, ID. She brought two children to the marriage, Norman “Tory” Geib and Katharine “"Tamara", née Geib, Gonzales. Dennis reveled in being a father. He encouraged both children to participate in baseball and soccer and volunteered to be a coach for those sports. He was an Umpire in the Spokane, WA area for several years. He was a member of the American Legion, Spokane, WA chapter and the U.S. Postal Union, Retired..
He served proudly in the United States Air Force for 21 years and 8 days. While in the military, he was stationed in Texas, California, Minnesota, Florida, Spokane, Washington, where he met his wife, and three assignments in Germany and one in Korea. Upon retirement from the U.S.A.F., he joined the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier and took a medical retirement in 2009. He was an avid camper, bowler, fisherman, baseball umpire and loved his Cleveland Indians baseball team. This last winter, he and Katharine finally got to spend time in Arizona for the Indians spring training camp.
He is survived in addition to his wife, Katharine, and step-children, Norman “Tory” Geib, and (Luke) Katharine “Tamira”, née Geib, Gonzales, by three step-grandchildren, Tristan Andrew Chavez, Jordan Paul Geib, Mallari Katharine Gonzalez, all of Spokane, Washington; his father, Donald Duvall and stepmother, Faye, née Mooney, Nay; his four sisters, Colleen (Mike) Baur, Bellevue, Ohio, Gloria Jean (Donald) Mooney, Christina Ann “Tina” Hatcher and Lori Lynn Nay, all of Fremont, Ohio; one brother, Charles Stewart (Talya) Nay, Kennewick, Washington; two nieces, nine nephews and two grand-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Jean, née Champlain, Nay (1928 – 1968) and his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandparents.
