Deborah Jane Voltz, 48 years old, passed away on February 23, 2023 from respiratory complications after being recently hospitalized for pneumonia. She was born to Albert and Elizabeth Voltz in Spokane, Washington on April 1, 1974. Deborah spent her childhood in Chewelah, Washington where she attended school through 12th grade. Deborah enjoyed athletics and competed in softball and spent time on the cheer squad. Throughout her lifetime, though, skiing was the sport she loved most. She was a ski instructor for many years at Vail/Beaver Creek in Colorado and a coach at 49 Degrees North in Chewelah. She was an accomplished ski racer and was always tough to beat in a race course. One of her favorite sayings was the skier’s prayer, “We ski not as a sport but as a way of life to be closer to God who makes it all possible.”
As an adult, Deborah lived in Spokane where she shared a home with her brother, David. On occasion, her other brother, Daniel, would also stay with them when he was in town for school or work, putting all three siblings again under the same roof. For the last several years, Deborah worked for NAPA Auto Parts as a delivery driver, brightening each doorstep she entered. She was also a licensed nail technician and in the evenings after working at NAPA all day, she would do nails for friends. She was an energetic person who loved to be flashy and bold. Upon her passing one friend said “Heaven got a little bit brighter and a whole lot louder!”
Deborah was a huge fan of the Seattle Seahawks and considered herself a WSU Cougar. You always knew it was game day based on her creative outfits. She loved the color pink, drove a car with eyelashes on the headlights, and liked to ride her dirt bike. She was particularly fond of her two nieces and over the years joined them on many trips and taught them to swim, rollerblade, ice skate, ski, ride bikes, drive a stick shift, pick huckleberries, and more. After her mother’s passing, she became her father’s best friend. They talked almost every day, shared adventures in and out of the country, and spent hours laughing together with their mutual friends.
Deborah was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth. She is survived by her father, Albert, of Chewelah; her brother, David, of Spokane; her brother, Daniel (Monica), and nieces, Svea and Ella Voltz, all of Chewelah.
Please join the family in celebrating Deborah’s life on Sunday, May 21st at 2:00 p.m. The service will be held at Valley Bible Church, 3061 Pine Street in Valley, WA.
