Born on May 17, 1936, in Spokane, Washington, she was the daughter of the late Lester J. Hansen and Ora Pittman.
Carol started working at the age of 16 when she held jobs in retail sales, as an office assistant, a model, and at the Davenport Hotel. She graduated from North Central High School in 1954, from Eastern Washington State University with a Bachelor’s of Art in Education with Highest Honors in 1969, and both a Master’s in Education and a Master’s in Art in 1972. She taught art in the Medical Lake School District from 1969 until her retirement in 1978. From a young age Carol enjoyed nearly all forms of art but focused on her painting. Her award-winning artwork was featured in several art shows throughout Washington and many pieces were sold to collectors.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John Swanson. Carol’s interment, next to John, was held September 10, 2024, in a small ceremony at Pines Cemetery in Spokane.
She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Paula) and Gregory (Renee), her daughter Julie, stepdaughter Jan (Randy), several half siblings, including Donna and Marilyn (Eddy), 4 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Carol was a woman of faith and believed that Jesus Christ was her Lord and Savior. A memorial service and a celebration of Carol’s life will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Highline Christian Church, 14859 1st Ave South, Burien, Washington followed by a reception.
