Born on July 11, 1932, on the family homestead outside Aladdin, Wyoming, to William Thomas Lawr and Alma Marie (Ogden) Lawr, he was raised alongside his three brothers and one sister in various towns and villages of the Western Frontier.
Alex was drafted into the U.S. Army in January 1953 and served in the signal corps, primarily in France and Western Europe.
Alex married Marlene Jean (Seccomb) Lawr on August 26, 1972. Marlene had four girls from her prior marriage, and Alex took them in as his own. Together they had one child, Raymond, born in 1974.
Beginning in 1956 Alex built a well-respected painting company serving Spokane and the surrounding area. Clients included high-end homes on the South Hill, Bouten Construction, Mooney & Pugh, Sacred Heart Hospital, and the United States Federal Government.
He is survived by his children, Terri (Scott) Luce, Karen Riggan, Sandi Gill, and Ray (Vicky) Lawr; grandchildren, Suzanne Harris, Bobby Stansbury, Nichole Luce, Hailey Riggan, Brynden (Simona) Riggan, Marena Riggan, Sidney Riggan, Jonathan (Tate) Lawr, Spencer Lawr, Paige Lawr; great-grandchildren, Christopher Aguirre, Tucker Harris, Kirsten Harris, Silvia Lawr, Strider Lawr, Octavia Riggan.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Marlene Jean (Seccomb) Lawr, brothers Bill Lawr and Jack Lawr, sister Zella Gouvion, daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Bob Stansbury, and precious grandson Joey Hoeper.
The memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Thornhill Valley Chapel, located at 1400 S. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA, followed immediately by a graveside service at Pines Cemetery.
