William J. Felter, Jr., of Sparta, NJ, passed away on Monday July 24th at home and surrounded by his loving family. Will was born in Nyack, NY, graduated from Nyack High School, and earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY in 1959. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, loyal brother, and friend. He was well respected and dearly loved.
Will is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Virginia (O’Keefe) Felter, his devoted children: William and his wife, LuAnn of Clayton, NC; Alison Salka and her husband Bill of Somers, CT; Thomas and his wife Susie of Bedminster, NJ; and his sister Elizabeth Gross of Oakland, CA. Will is also survived by five adoring grandchildren who loved watching the History Channel with their grandpa: Andrew Felter, Matthew Felter, Dara Salka, Madeleine Salka, and Katelyn Felter. He is predeceased by his parents, William J. Felter, Sr. and Elizabeth (Brechbiel) Felter and sister, Gladys Felter.
Will worked for Chrysler Missile in Detroit and later Northrop in California. He then moved to NJ where he worked at Picatinny Arsenal for over 30 years, during which time he met his beloved wife Virginia and raised his family in Sparta. He enjoyed spending time with family, travelling, and learning new things. He was a great example of a loving husband and father whose actions underscored his great love for family and friends.
Friends and family may meet at Goble Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Sparta, New Jersey at 10 a.m. on 5 August 2023. A lunch repast will follow at the St. Moritz in Sparta.
